Washington Death With Dignity Act (Initiative 1000)
This Washington Death With Dignity Act, Initiative 1000, allows terminally ill adults to request lethal doses of medication from medical and osteopathic physicians. The terminally ill patient must be medically diagnosed with six months or less to live and be a Washington resident. This act became Washington state law on March 5, 2009.
Harrison Medical Center respects the relationship between the provider and the patient, and has determined from voter preference that it is in the community’s best interest to allow its healthcare providers to participate in the Washington Death With Dignity Act if they so choose.
Harrison does not mandate that any provider participate in the Washington Death With Dignity Act, nor does Harrison encourage any provider to do so. Only those providers who are willing and desire to participate should do so. Prescriptions for life-ending medications will not be filled at Harrison.
