Cardiac Surgery

Dedicated, Experienced, and Award-winning

Cardiac Surgery Home Page Some of the best and brightest heart surgeons and cardiac specialists have chosen well. You can, too.

Our highly skilled providers are credentialed, experienced, and dedicated. They’ve chosen to practice at Harrison Medical Center because of its community of patient-focused colleagues and advanced medical facilities—including a new Heart & Vascular Center that opened in July 2010. They’ve also chosen to live nearby and be closely connected to the communities they serve.

The cardiac surgery team has provided exceptional care and earned many well-deserved kudos for the 1,400 open-heart surgeries it has performed in its first eight years:

  • Patients consistently rate the team in the 99th percentile, according to Press Ganey surveys.

  • The team was No. 1 in Washington and received the 2007 HealthGrades© Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award, putting it among the top 10 percent in the nation for cardiac surgery.

  • Harrison HealthPartners Cardiothoracic Surgery was the only heart surgery group in Washington state to receive the Society of Thoracic Surgeons' highest rating—three stars—based on performance, complications, and quality measures from July 1, 2009 to July 30, 2010, as reported in the September 2011 edition of Consumer Reports® magazine.

About the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Quality Rating and Data Reporting

Harrison’s cardiothoracic team submits clinical data to the STS adult cardiac database. STS provides surgeons with information about their performance compared to other programs around the country. The STS three-star rating is a composite score that represents new standards in the assessment of clinical performance. Eleven national quality measures are included to determine the composite score. A three-star rating from STS denotes the highest quality in cardiothoracic surgery programs. Our heart team has achieved this impressive designation by providing patients with exceptional surgical care for all consecutive reporting periods July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2010. This three-star rating puts us in the top 10 percent of nearly 1,100 hospitals in the U.S. that report similar data.

About our cardiothoracic surgeons

Chris King, MD

“It’s been an honor to be part of this and to be able to come to a community that didn’t have any services and supply access to cardiac surgery,” he said. “We’ve come a long way in seven years. We’ve had an impact on the community beyond what I even thought was possible when we first started the program.”
