Our Gift Shop now carries artist, author, and breast-cancer survivor Sally Jo Martine’s “survivor line” of sock monkeys and four published books. They were inspired by a heart-warming, monkey-filled romp during the last four months of her mother’s life (The Monkey Story), and the author’s own personal journey with breast cancer (The Monkey Story Continues). The two-dozen “sock monkey survivors” portrayed in Survivor Tales react to their diagnoses in expected and unexpected ways, tracking a range of emotions from denial to grief to humor and hope. Ten percent of all net proceeds from the sale of Survivor Tales will go to the Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. Read more about the sock monkeys and Sally Jo’s desire to bring hope into the lives of those facing cancer in the Kitsap Sun.
