Labor & Delivery Visitor Guidelines

Labor and Delivery and Post-Partum Care Units at Harrison Silverdale

Our babies are fragile. However, at Harrison Silverdale we understand the important role family and friends play in the delivery of our newborns. That’s why we welcome the father or other support persons to attend our mothers during labor and delivery. We offer the following Visitor Guidelines to help ensure mother and baby remain well cared for as friends and family visit.

Our goal is to offer some practical ways that assist in providing comfort to mother and baby, while at the same time protecting the health and safety of all mothers and babies on our unit.

Safe Environment

  • Visitors must sign in at the second floor lobby and show photo ID to receive a visitor pass.
  • Patients may have a primary support person and up to four visitors at a time while in their labor and delivery and post-partum rooms.
  • Quiet hours are from 8:30 pm to 7 am. This is an important time for patients to rest. Please talk quietly and turn off the ringer on your cell phone.
  • Mother’s primary support person may stay overnight in our private patient rooms. Baby’s siblings may not spend the night with patients while they are in the hospital.
  • Videotaping is not allowed.

Risk of Infection

  • Family or friends who have signs or symptoms of illness, such as colds, flu, respiratory illness, or diarrhea, should postpone hospital or home visits until they are well.
  • We do not recommend that children under the age of 12 accompany their parents or visitors to the hospital. Children who are visiting should be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • During RSV season (December through March), children under the age of 12 are discouraged from visiting the hospital.

Based on our patients’ care needs, visitors may be asked to leave the labor and delivery or post-partum room and wait in the waiting areas.

Other guidelines apply for caesarean sections and the Special Care Nursery. Please talk with our nursing staff if you have any questions or view our Visitor Guidelines Information Sheet.
