About gynecologic cancer

Gynecologic cancer is cancer of a woman’s reproductive system. There are five main types—uterine, ovarian, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal. It occurs in about 1 in 20 women in the United States.

We have good news about gynecologic cancer though. The survival rate has increased over the past 25 years. This is because women now have cancer screening more often; lives are saved. That is Harrison’s aim for you and your family.

Harrison’s gynecologic cancer treatments

Harrison is a recognized leader in cancer treatment, diagnosis, and technology. Our specialists are some of the best in their fields. You have the most advanced care available today.

We offer precision radiation technology, such as IMRT—intensity-modulated radiation therapy. It aims more precisely at the tumor and less at healthy tissue.

Treatments vary for each of the gynecologic cancers. It depends on many factors: a woman’s age, the extent of the disease, and her plans to give birth. Harrison offers many treatments, including:

  • Chemotherapy
  • IMRT
  • Brachytherapy
  • Intracavitary radiation therapy
  • Surgery
  • Combination radiation therapy
  • da Vinci® Surgical System
  • Intraoperative radiation therapy

The newest technology in cancer diagnosis

At Harrison, you have access to the latest technology for cancer screening and diagnosis. Risk assessments provide valuable information as well. Today’s tests are more effective at detecting the disease. In addition, you can have most of them done during an outpatient visit.

As with treatments, diagnostic tests are different for each cancer.

  • Pelvic exam
  • Biopsy
  • Pap smear
  • Colposcopy
  • Scans—MRI, CAT, PET
  • Transvaginal ultrasound
